I hit the same wall on Gunsmith level 3 in ARC Raiders: you're doing everything "right," extracting with a backpack full of junk, and still staring at zero Rusted Gears. I even started timing my raids and swapping routes like it was gonna magically fix it. It didn't. What helped was treating gears like a targeted farm instead of a lucky drop, and if you're the type who's also comparing account progress or builds, checking out arcraidersaccounts can give you a sense of what a fully upgraded setup looks like while you plan your grind.

Stop Looting Like It's Day One
The biggest mistake is playing "container bingo." Crates, drawers, house kitchens—sure, you'll come out rich in wire and bolts, but gears don't follow that logic. Vehicles do. Cars, buses, and those long storage trucks are the real slot machines, and they pay out way more often than random indoor loot. I treat every vehicle cluster like a mini-objective: clear the immediate angle, hit the trunks and compartments fast, then move. If you're spending minutes sweeping a residential block, you're basically volunteering to be broke.

Dam Battlegrounds Routes That Actually Pay
If you want consistency, Dam Battlegrounds is the calmest place to build a routine, especially solo. Drop near the south edge by Scrapyard and work the trucks first. Those big rusted rigs have given me double gears more than once, and it's not rare if you're there early. From Scrapyard, rotate north into Powergrid and check any generator-adjacent spawns, but don't linger. If it's quiet, push up toward the North Complex Elevator and hit the buses in that cluster; you'll notice the difference over a few runs. Also, I know it sounds like gamer superstition, but night raids and Cold Snaps feel better for gear pulls. Maybe it's the loot table, maybe it's just fewer people contesting vehicles. Either way, I run those conditions on purpose.

Buried City: High Density, Higher Risk
Buried City is where you go when you're sick of "maybe." The Northwest Industrial area is stacked, and the Parking Garage is the main event—cars on multiple levels, quick checks, quick exits. But you've gotta play it like a heist, not a shopping trip. Get in, loot the vehicles, and leave before you start thinking about "one more floor." People camp the exits and they know why you're there. Bring something that lets you disengage, and don't be afraid to bail with just one gear. One gear extracted beats four gears lost.

Loadout and Inventory Tricks That Save Runs
Do the boring prep before you drop: clear space, bring the biggest bag you can, and don't pack your inventory with low-value clutter. Gears are heavy, and getting caught playing backpack Tetris is how raids end. If you're short on time and you'd rather skip some of the grind, some players use marketplaces for items and services, and u4gm is known for game currency and item support, but if you're farming it yourself the play is simple: chase vehicles first, treat houses as bait, and extract the moment you've got what you came for.
